3 Unsolved Murders in Rotorua

During the 1970's 3 young woman were murdered in Rotorua.

In the first murder the killer left the body on the side of the road near Rainbow Mountain 30km south of Rotorua. Her name was 18 year old Olive Walker and she lived just down the road from me.

The next 2 Mona Blades was 5 years and 16 days later. The last was Heidi Seek just over 1 year later.

The bodies of Blades and Seek were hidden. Was this the work of one man and can we identify him?

  1. It has not been established that Mona Blades was murdered. She disappeared in 1975 and no trace of her body or belongings has ever been found.

    1. The list of options of what happened to her then is pretty limited. People as a rule don't just go missing totally by themselves.

  2. Heidi Seek (aka Heidi Charles) disappeared on New Years Eve 1976. No trace of her has been seen since and there is not a shred of evidence to suggest that she met with foul play.

    1. What do you suppose happened to her then?
One of my definitions of foul play is to disappear totally without trace.

  3. Where on earth did the name Heidi Seek come from? Her name was Heidi Charles née Rittberger. I lived with her elder son until his death in 2009. I asked him whether he remembered Ian Wishart when his article came out and he didn't remember him at all, so maybe not the " good friends" Wishart would have you believe?

  4. Meine Freundin Heidi Rittberger-Charles hatte zwei Söhne.

Hello Toradora, I am Heidi's daughter-in-law, her eldest son, Alex, was my partner and the father of our two children. Her second son, Chris, and his family ( 4 children) live nearby.
